Flying private to the Alps: the closest jet airport to every ski resort

At a society called Airport Cocktail, the trip starts at the gate — and for a group heading to the Alps, that gate is increasingly a private one. But flying private only saves you time if you fly into the right airport, and the right one depends entirely on the mountain. The difference between two airports can be an hour on a winding road — or a ten-minute helicopter.
Here’s where to point the jet for each of Europe’s great ski resorts.
The big gateways
- Geneva (GVA) — the master hub of the western Alps. One to two and a half hours to Courchevel, Méribel, Val d’Isère, Verbier, Megève and Chamonix, with the most private-aviation (FBO) capacity in the region.
- Sion (SIR) — the Valais insiders’ airport. Verbier in about 50 minutes, Zermatt in 1h15 (or a 15-minute helicopter), plus Crans-Montana and Saas-Fee. Small, fast, and a helicopter base.
- Innsbruck (INN) — the Tyrol gateway. Kitzbühel and St. Anton in about 1h15; Lech and Ischgl a little beyond.
Land almost at the door
- Samedan / Engadin (SMV) — St. Moritz is a ten-minute drive. The highest airport in Europe, dropping you straight into the Engadin.
- Courchevel Altiport — the legendary one: a short, steeply sloped runway carved into the mountain at 2,000 metres, flyable only by specially rated pilots in small aircraft and helicopters. You land at Courchevel 1850 itself.
- Megève Altiport — the same idea in miniature, for Megève.
The rest of the map
- Chambéry (CMF) — closest to Courchevel (about an hour, or a 20-minute heli), Méribel and Val d’Isère.
- Salzburg (SZG) — an alternative to Innsbruck for Kitzbühel (about 1h15).
- Friedrichshafen (FDH) & St. Gallen-Altenrhein (ACH) — the quiet way into the Arlberg (Lech, St. Anton).
- Venice (VCE) — the move for Cortina and the Dolomites, about two hours out.

The group move
The real luxury isn’t the jet — it’s that the group lands and the trip simply begins. One aircraft for everyone, the FBO handled, and a helicopter or chauffeured transfer waiting to carry the group from the tarmac to the chalet door. That’s our half. You bring the people; we arrange the flights, the airport and the transfer; and once the group is set, the host travels free.
